We’re excited that you are considering a trip to Lake Atitlan and visiting Guatemala! There are many activities and experiences to have while visiting Los Elementos Adventure Center and Spa. Below we have outlined a few of our most frequently asked questions to help you choose the right activity for your vacation.

Visiting Guatemala & Lake Atitlan:

  • Is it safe?
    Guatemala is a safe country to visit. Like anywhere, there are areas with higher threats than others. Lake Atitlan and Antigua are both extremely safe destinations for visitors. Be aware of your surroundings and be smart!
  • Can I use USD, CD, Pounds or Euros?
    The Guatemalan currency is the Quetzal. Most places will not take any other form of currency. You can use the ATM’s at the airport, in Antigua or Panajachel. There is no ATM’s in Santa Cruz, so you must get any cash in Pana or a larger village, like San Pedro. Credit Cards are accepted at most hotels, hostels and tour companies, but most restaurants do not.
  • What is the weather like in Lake Atitlan?
    The temperature is fairly consistent throughout the year. 70’s and sunny during the day, 60’s at night. There is a rainy season, which rain usually comes in the afternoon. There is a general lake breeze. We advise bringing a few warmer layers for chilly evenings.
  • How do you get to Lake Atitlan?
    You can get to Lake Atitlan by shared shuttle, cab or private driver. We can arrange your travel to the lake.
  • How far is Lake Atitlan from Guatemala City?
    Without traffic, the drive to Panajachel, Lake Atitlan is about 3 hours.
  • Is the terrain easy to walk?
    Roads and paths in Guatemala can be challenging to scale. Many streets are cobblestone or steep inclines. Factor in 5000 foot elevation above sea level and most exercise will leave you short of breath.

Kayak & SUP:

  • How do I get to Los Elementos Activity Center?
    Los Elementos is located in Santa Cruz la Laguna on Lake Atitlan. If you’re staying in another village, you will need to take the water taxi to the Adventure Center. Most captains will agree to drop you off at our dock. Alternately, from the Santa Cruz dock, you will make a left/west on a dirt path and follow it for about 10 minutes until you reach our property.
  • Can I pay with a Credit Card?
    Yes, we accept credit cards and GTQ
  • How do I rent a kayak or paddleboard?
    You can reserve a kayak or paddleboard by contacting us, or just showing up to Los Elementos Adventure Center. We have plenty of kayaks, but limited paddleboards. Availability is not guaranteed unless a reservation is made in advance.
  • How much are kayak and paddleboard rentals?
    50 GTQ per hour, per person. 30 GTQ for an additional hour after
  • Can I leave my belongings somewhere safe?
    You can leave your belongings on our property where we always have at least one person working.

Hiking Tours:

  • Are there English speaking guides available?
    Spanish is primarily spoken in Guatemala. Our tour guides are fluent in English and Spanish . You can learn more about our team here.
  • What type of shoes do you recommend?
    We would recommend broken-in trail shoes, boots, or sneakers for your hikes around Lake Atitlan.
  • How far in advance do I need to book a guided hike?
    A few days notice is adequate.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
    You may cancel your tour/activity 24 hours prior for a full refund.
  • What should I bring for my adventure?
    Sun protection is important! Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and water.

 

Overnight Stays:

  • How do I book an overnight stay at Los Elementos Adventure Center?
    You can book directly with us for your stay, or find us on Air BnB. You can view each of our rooms here: Cabin 1, Cabin 2, Cabin 3.
  • What are your rooms like?
    Each private cabana has a queen size bed, kitchen and private bath. Two of our three cabanas can sleep up to 4 people. The cabanas all have outdoor relaxation areas as well.
  • What should I pack for an overnight stay?
    We suggest hiking shoes, sandals/water shoes, a daypack, swimsuit, clothes with a warm layer option, toiletries, camera, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle and flashlight.

Spa:

  • What offerings does the spa have?
    The spa offers massages, waxing and hair cuts.
  •  How far in advance do I need to book my treatment?
    Please book 24 hours in advance.
